“Attention to the human body brings healing and regulation.
Through awareness of the body we remember who we really are.”
- Jack Kornfield

While traditional talk therapy can be effective, current research demonstrates that bodily awareness enhances treatment.  Common mental health challenges such as trauma, anxiety and depression are connected to the body in cause and effect.  Through emotional and somatic awareness known as Somatic Experiencing, individuals can experience healing, nervous system regulation, safety, growth and joy that are fully integrated and that endure as instinct.

In the context of couple therapy, by applying the Somatic Experiencing approach to relationship conflicts, couples can deepen intimacy and discover ways to regulate each other’s nervous systems and to experience safety and joy as individuals and as a couple.  Whereas traditional couple therapy focuses on how each individual can heal themselves in order to heal the relationship, the Psychobiological Approach to Couple Therapy (P.A.C.T.) teaches each individual how to heal and regulate each other.
